Who said mappers using the Strava Heatmap are the ones adding these edge cases?

I’ve certainly seen people do that, but that doesn’t mean that all mappers who look at Strava’s heatmap never look at anything else.

Of course, I’m familiar with the area, but I just don’t get the specific hate on Strava. It’s just one of many valuable sources

Indeed! And using Strava’s heatmap in this way is a huge benefit to OSM.
