Happy October, everyone! It’s the month of Hacktoberfest which is an annual event that encourages people to contribute to open source throughout October. It is all about supporting the projects you use and love, learning and practicing skills that will enhance your career, and meeting new people who love open source. More info here.

What’s coming in October?

It’s a known fact that in Tasking Manager, one cannot validate self-mapped tasks. But the message was not being shown clearly to the user. So, the proper information will be provided now as shown in the screenshot below:

After a longggg wait, we have OAuth 2.0⚡. Being a part of the tech ecosystem, system upgrades and maintenance is always a crucial part and this was something we had been wanting to implement in Tasking Manager. If you are wondering, OAuth in a nutshell, is an authorization protocol and has been used to connect a user’s OSM account that you may have noticed while logging in. We upgraded our system from OAuth 1.0a to OAuth 2.0. Thanks to our amazing community members who were involved in the testing.
Note: Please hard refresh(Ctrl+Shift+R) if incase any issue encounters while logging in at first time.

OSMCha profile is now added to the mapper account page. This will make it easier to get directed through profile and see the changesets. To check yours, see the “My contributions” page as shown below or go through any of the user’s profile.

The Download AOI and Download Tasks Grid buttons are now available for all users, which were previously restricted to only the creator of a project. We hope this will be helpful as discussed in our last collective meetup.

Project task stats were generated wrong after performing functions by admin like “reset all tasks”, “validate all tasks” and “map all tasks actions”. This particular issue has been solved now. Below is an example of the wrong stats being shown earlier:

One of our users had reported our api-docs not being responsive enough for mobile platforms like in the iPhone 8 plus here. This issue has been resolved, therefore if you use our api-docs, check them out and provide feedback.

What excited us?
Being an open-source project maintainer, we jump with joy when we get any sort of contribution from new people. And this month, we received a Pull Request(PR) from a new member, which we are very thankful for and want to encourage you to also contribute, as October is also a Hactoberfest month as mentioned in my starting para. We must say we are very lucky enough to have such a supportive community that has been there to take us where we are today. So, guess what? Tasking Manager is also participating this time in Hactoberfest. So keep up your love for open-source and keep contributing :).
