Tagging harbour areas

How do I tag the area of a commercial harbour (i.e. including the service roads, parking, storage areas, container terminals, ferry terminals, shipyards and so on)? Is it all a single “landuse=industrial”?

Should passenger ferry areas (including their approach area, carpark, etc.) be tagged separately?

I notice that “leisure=marina” can be distinguished, which is nice. Should that be used on an area including the actual water of the harbour, or the piers and land area around it?

I notice someone tagged a container terminal in the port of Hamburg as “landuse=retail”, which strikes me as an odd choice. http://openstreetmap.org/?lat=53.5349&lon=9.9479&zoom=15&layers=B000FTF

I was going to trace some of the areas in Piraeus harbour http://openstreetmap.org/?lat=37.94337&lon=23.62918&zoom=15&layers=B000FTF (from the Yahoo images, which are very good for this area)

If you need ideas, have a look a Rotterdam harbor. It’s one of the biggest in the world and highly mapped.

I would choose to use landuse=industrial for the container terminals etc

Wel bedankt. Then I think I’ll go for “landuse=industrial” for the commercial parts, and “amenity=ferry_terminal” for the public approach areas of passenger ferry lines. There also seems to be “waterway=dock” and “man_made=pier”, which might come in handy.
