Tag for pet salon?

What is the tag for “pet salon”?

I asked the same question long ago on OSM Help: https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/3017/how-should-i-tag-a-dog-grooming-parlour.

The answer still holds: shop=pet_grooming.

I’ve taken this opportunity to add a wiki entry: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:shop%3Dpet_grooming

The animals page as a different suggestion: animal = wellness, see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Animals

And more usage, but I expect mainly in Germany. Animal wellness is just not british english: poodle parlour, pet salon, dog grooming etc all well established phrases: see google ngram.

I’ll add it as a synonym.

I also note animal=crematorium which I wasn’t aware of and I’ve been unhappy with the tagging of pet crematoria for a while

However, I thought animal as a tag would contain the type of animal as it did in the early Zoo mapping days. Which in fact it does (look at the less frequent values in taginfo). So this key needs some work. As it stands the other uses seems to refer to domestic animals (pets, farm animals etc) only, so perhaps domestic_animal or animal_amenity might be better.

“animal wellness” is simply meaningless in English. It looks like whoever created the tag in Germany didn’t make any attempt to verify the suitability of the English tag and just made something up. Usage (at 149) is pretty low too, so on this occasion I’d just ignore the wiki and use a meaningful tag. I suspect that if I went through all of the dog and cat grooming places that I’ve added over the years and aligned them to pet_grooming then the total would be > 149 - and that’s just with what I personally have mapped!
