tag for numbering traffic lights

Is there a tag for numbering traffic lights?

Could http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:ref be an option?

Hi,

please check the lights in Raanana.
Example: http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/node/278678330

junction_ref = 10

I don’t know if its correct, but it its used there

junction_ref is not mentioned in the Wiki, which doesn’t mean anything, as there is no “official” tag-list.
But:

  • What does a junction-ref has to do with a traffic_light? A junction can have more than one traffic_light.
  • What is the advantage of a new tag “traffic_light_ref” against the common tags “highway=traffic_light;ref=1234”? Of course, this tag-combination isn’t supported as well at the moment, but I think it will be easier for renderer, if we use the already existing tags.

I agree with you that its better to use just “ref” instead of “junction_ref”.

And what I think drakosha was asking is a numbering of junctions.
Every junction has a number that is shown with a small sign at the traffic light (traffic light numbering).

I’d vote for the “ref” tag.

A problem I’ve encountered is that there’s a mismatch with the “highway” tag.
You can have either highway=traffic_signals OR highway=motorway_junction.
When the junction is known, and have a name (e.g. Glilot Junction) then I’d prefer to use the junction over the traffic signals.

The traffic lights in Israeli cities became numbered with the installation of a traffic control cameras.
But, AFAIK, all lights in the same junction have the same number,
so I would guess that it’s the junction’s feature rather than a specific traffic light feature.
