The shop brand JD Sports is in the Name Suggestion Index (NSI) as shop=sports. I think this tag should only be used for shops that do (also) sell sports equipment, while JD Sports only sells sneakers and sports clothes. So my suggestion is to suggest shop=clothes for this chain instead.
I opened a ticket but it was suggested that I open a thread here to discuss this with the community first.
So, what do you think, is JD Sports a sports shop or a clothes shop?
Just to be clear, you’re asking about the shop brand, not the organisaton (which owns dozens of other brands, some of which have their own NSI entries?
Which market are you asking about? It’s quite possible that their offer varies in different markets (perhaps those in which their other “outdoor” brands are less established).
I think, based on this, shop=clothes + clothes=sports is more appropriate. Looking through their (UK) website, there is very little other than sports apparel, e.g., a very limited range of swimming goggles, some football (soccer) shin pads, but no tennis rackets.
I think it’s pretty obvious they’re asking about the brand, not the whole company.
I agree. However, clothes=sport (without the S) is used 35 times, while clothes=sports is used 2,970 times and is documented. The latter sounds better.
