i read the import guidelines on the OEM wiki, but that didn’t seem what like what i was looking for, plus the preperations are too extensive for this small thing i want to do,
i’d appreciate any help🙏

What do you mean by “in the map itself, not as a tag”? Most of the buildings in OSM are traced from imagery sources we have permissions to use. The tag is just the part that indicates that an outline is meant to be a building, the outlines are either done manually or by individually confirming ones brought in from an approved source.
You can use ID (just open opnestreetmap.org, zoom your area and click edit) or rapid editor to add buildings you need.
If you don’t have an existing dataset of building outlines (an “import”) then just go start drawing building=yes or building=residentials!
I would recommend rapid instead of ID for this usecase.
It is much faster in creating buildings, but the more you get away from the US the quality of the geometry of Microsofts’ footprints is a bit meh.
Just be careful that you are checking each building is as such on the map instead of accepting every suggestion ![]()
Happy mapping!
sorry, i meant the buildings outline that can be drawn with editors like rapid, i discovered rapid awhile after submitting this post and it looked like what was i looking for !
however now im facing the problem of it actully updating after submitting the changes - it said some places may take longer to update - but it’s been about a couple days and no changes can be seen from apps like organic maps ![]()
thanks! i used rapid, but the updating it very slow, i’ll try openstreetmap’s website to see if it’s faster
yup that’s what im using , but it’s a bit slow in updating

defiantly! much apperciated
Organic Maps updates its data about once a month, if I’m not mistaken, so you may need to wait some time before your edits show up there.
ah-i didnt know that, that makes more sense
The data enter the database immediately but the various apps (including the map that appears on osm.org) consist of tiles that are updated periodically, typically with a lag ranging from several hours to a month or more.
