Hi everyone, I’ve noticed that the only symbol available for motorhome pitches is the caravan. Isn’t there any way to change the symbol? It really needs to be done. A good alternative symbol has already been shown on the German Wikipedia page. It should be changed. Can anyone help with that?
You have already opened a topic for this problem and have received the necessary informations here: Symbole Problem
Why open another topic for it?
Carto is just one of many ways our data can be rendered. Do other nap styles show the same symbol? What about dedicated camping maps or OsmAnd or CoMaps?
If you wish to add more symbols to Carto (our “standard” map style) you need to talk to the maintainers of that style.
I didn´t find the contact data.
Let me help
My question remains since I personally belief that campers don’t use osm.org to check camp sites. So: What about places where campers really look for info? How do those render?
I don’t camp. I can’t tell.
Camper search on osm, sure. It´s easy and fast.
And opening a second thread within just 90 minutes really is spamming if you ask me.
This is not a forum run by a multi billion dollar company. We do this on our time. So try some patience please.
Can we merge this with the other thread or close this thread here?
I can close the other thread
I don’t think that suggesting that someone new to OSM tries to influence the style of OSM Carto is going to be productive. I’ve been trying to do that since 2014 with basically no success…
What is more helpful (as was noted in the topic in the German forum) was that there are many ways to display OSM data, including maps specifically for different sorts of camping. A general purpose map probably doesn’t care about different sorts of camp and caravan sites, so investigating other maps is surely the way to go.
Another challenge (and one that I don’t really know the answer to) is that the German wiki page does not reflect the English words used for the OSM tags, and usage of those OSM tags (even in the UK) partly, but not completely, reflects that German page.
As a sidenote, I look after a couple of OSM map styles and have looked at how to differentiate different sorts of sites by tag usage in OSM, but it’s complicated so I could not see an easy answer.
Habe dir mal geschrieben
Wirklich?
[…] is a place where people with caravans / motorhomes / recreational vehicles can stay overnight […]
- (Australia, UK, New Zealand, South Africa) A furnished vehicle towed behind a car, etc., and used as a dwelling when stationary.
Synonyms: (US) camper, recreational vehicle, RV, (US) trailer, travel trailer
Edit after the merger of threads.
This uprooting of answers from the original thread is a little bit confusing for me. My answer has literally been taken out of context ![]()
PS. As and addition to my arguments: Even the US-English language uses the term trailer as synonym, so a pictogram of a trailer also supports their (US) mnemonics.
