Switzerland - Inconsistent Layer Tagging on Highways

Hello OSM Switzerland,

I would like to share a MapRoulette challenge and would value your perspective, expertise, and review on this type of task - to see if this provides real value to your mapping efforts. The challenge is called Switzerland - Inconsistent Layer Tagging on Highways.

This challenge is dedicated to improving layer information (layer=* tags) on highway features, primarily focusing on bridges and tunnels.

The tasks highlight data quality issues such as:

  • Missing layer tags.
  • Incorrect tag values.
  • Potentially misplaced features.
We’d appreciate it if you’d take a look at the tasks and provide us with any comments or input you have regarding the MapRoulette challenge

From what I’ve looked at, this challenge mostly seems to identify layered roads that go over or under a road that doesn’t have a layer tag. But isn’t not having a layer tag a completely valid way of marking a way as layer=0?

Do you mind if I look into this and will come back first thing in the morning.

Thank you @Taktaal

The layer=0 is implied on all features without a layer tag, do you have any examples?

Like this task: MapRoulette

It’s about the crossing of Way: 438981914 | OpenStreetMap and Way: 26833048 | OpenStreetMap

The upper path has layer=3 and the lower path doesn’t have a layer tag (so should be assumed to be layer=0 imo)
