Dear OpenStreetMap Sweden,
I would like to announce the Sweden - Fix Duplicated Highways MapRoulette challenge that aimed at resolving overlapping highway duplicates in OpenStreetMap (OSM).
Why is this important?
Overlapping highways in OSM can lead to several issues:
- Confusing Navigation: Users may receive incorrect or ambiguous directions.
- Visualization Issues: Roads may appear doubled or inconsistently rendered on maps.
- Data Processing Errors: Differences in tagging between duplicated segments can cause errors in data analysis.
- Reduced Map Accuracy: Overlaps negatively impact the usability and reliability of OSM data.
- Editing Challenges: Future edits become more difficult, especially when features overlap.
How were the tasks created?
Tasks were generated by filtering OSM data to identify highway segments with overlapping geometry within a 0.5-meter buffer. Cases with correct level and layer information were excluded. Some tasks may be false positives, so please mark them as “Not an Issue” if no edits are needed.
