Street parking mapping in the UK

I noticed that the street parking mapping style described on the wiki, i.e. ways with highway=* and parking:side is hardly ever used in the UK even though on-street parking is very common. Is there a reason for that? Would it be ok if I started mapping street parking in my local area following those guidelines?

I don’t think there’s a real reason for it and there’s no reason not to.

If you want to make a quick start and survey your local street parking provision and restrictions, there’s a street parking layer in the StreetComplete app.

Accurately tagging the actual restrictions, with operating times, zones and exceptions may be a little trickier.

It appears that I was using Overpass incorrectly earlier and now I can see that street parking is tagged in many places.

In any case, I’ll start using StreetComplete to map it here.
