Hi
i have been searching for a way to get a database / list of street names by suburb by province for South Africa in a excel/CSV format.
The data obviously exists. Does anybody know of a resource for this requirement

You can find a lot of useful information on using OSM for your own projects at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Develop.
For instance, at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Planet.osm you can find where to get extracts of the complete OSM data for your country.
Maybe Overpass can help:
area[name=“Troisdorf”];way(area)[highway][name];out;
Change output to CSV …
Please go to http://help.openstreetmap.org and do a search there for “CSV” or “export” … there are many hints about that.
