Standalone navigator


I’m new here, but interested of the project. I’m working with embedded solutions and I was thinking would it be possible to build open standalone navigator, which uses OSM as map source? Have you already discussed of the topic already?

I think it would be possible to find kind of navigator platform (hardware) and make the open source software by ourself. We could use for example some Linux distribution as an operating system and make own navigation software above the linux.

What do you think, would it be possible to develop this kind of system? Is there people who knows how to make systems like this?

As I say, I work this kind of project and I could try to find out that kind of hardware what we can use.
