Sport teams and their venues / stadiums

Should we tag the team onto a stadium / sports venue where they play their home games?
I guess this could be useful info, e.g. for tourists.

There are many teams that are not the owner or operator of “their” venue. And many venues have a distinct name which is not the name of the team. So you can’t tag the team with these.
Would tenant fit here? It is currently only supposed to be for gas station tenants.

As @dieterdreist noted already, there are places that are home to more than one team. This is no problem, there will be semicolon separated lists.

Generally it seems like the club or team is tagged onto the pitch (with a wiki link where possible and sport/surface/lit details) separate to the stadium surrounding it (which will have its own name, operator and wiki details). This makes the most sense to me and is how I’ve been tagging venues for consistency.

For example, stadium: Way: ‪Tynecastle Park‬ (‪4223856‬) | OpenStreetMap and pitch: Way: ‪Heart of Midlothian F.C.‬ (‪61884112‬) | OpenStreetMap

What does it mean, and did you read the discussion? Talk:Key:tenant - OpenStreetMap Wiki

Tagging a team’s name on a pitch is ‘tagging for the renderer’, IMO.

The pitch itself is probably not called Midlothian FC, but would in general be called Main Field or something like that. If it has a name at all.

How a team should be tagged I don’t know. Maybe a link to the stadium’s Wikipedia page is sufficient?

Or perhaps just adding ‘owner’ or ‘operator’ to the stadium?

I don’t think that would work, as @daganzdaanda points it’s not that unusual for a stadium/pitch to be used by more than one team. For example, Brisbane Road is owned and operated by Leyton Orient FC and is also the home ground of Tottenham Hotspur FC Women. I don’t think tenant really seems appropriate in this case. Wikidata uses occupant (P466) for this purpose, which could work, although if a new tag is needed why not team?

Wouldn’t occupant or team have the same downside when more than one team is using the stadium?

BTW, in both cases a semicolon separated list would work, I guess

Yes, both would frequently need to be semicolon-separated lists. For a new key, that wouldn’t be a problem (although I’m not sure whether it would work with associated :wikidata values).

Cool, it’s even in use already: team | Keys | OpenStreetMap Taginfo !
And among the 33, there are already two examples for “multiple occupancy”:
Relation: ‪Barclays Center‬ (‪8610205‬) | OpenStreetMap
Way: ‪Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium at Ashley Field‬ (‪1094384418‬) | OpenStreetMap

This fits perfectly what I was looking for.

I would think, that occupant would be more generic and could be used more general than just tagging sport teams. Even if you stay within sports, I wouldn’t refer the local bowling club as a team. Still they might occupy a bowling hall.
