Should river lines be mapped through lakes, estuaries, gulfs, and other large water bodies?

I’ve documented and have been using waterway=flowline for flows through large bodies of water. By contrast, waterway=link is for topological connections without implied flow direction (typically between boat access points and waterway centerlines).

Yes let’s not conflate the concept of a hydrologic network connection through a water body (flow line) with the concept of a link to land in a boating route. Separate tags make sense for these two things.
