Shop exclusively for batteries

Hi guys, how would you tag this battery shop? In the website image car batteries are seen but text says all kinds of batteries are sold from cars to industrial equipment to electronics. https://www.iisalmenakku.fi/

My options seem to be

shop=car_repair + service:vehicle:batteries=yes

or, perhaps more approppriate, but the tag is very rare (106 instances):

shop=battery

If it is a shop for all kinds of batteries the tag shop=battery fits perfect imo.

Maybe shop=electronics electronics=batteries ?

There are 7 uses of shop=electronics + electronics=battery (not batteries) so far, but I do not see an advantage in tagging more complicated than necessary. Again car batteries are not electronics imo. So I still would go for shop=battery.

main question is whether it is beneficial for data consumers to treat such shop as shop=electronics if they do not process detailed tags

it may be better to have them present as shop=electronics rather that unspecific shop type (and that is how various rare shop values end being classified)

If I would search for battery shops I would not really think about looking for shop=electronic in the first instance, but I don’t know what other data consumers would do. I prefer to follow the KISS principle and tag objects with the same term as used in real life.

No need for that Tag:shop=electrical - OpenStreetMap Wiki
These few seems wrongly used now though electrical | Keys | OpenStreetMap Taginfo

indeed, and there are already examples for electronics shops which have a more specific main tag, e.g. shop=mobile_phone, computer or hearing_aids
I’d see a dedicated vehicle battery shop in line with these and would favor a new tag, tagging them as electronics store would be misleading even if it could be seen as technically correct.

Thank you for the responses, everyone. In this case I went with shop=battery and the community seems to agree (reactions on quoted post).

The wiki says shop=electrical is

An electrical store is a shop focused on selling different electrical supplies (cable, cable channels, electric sockets etc) and electrical devices (electric meters, junction boxes, fuse boxes etc).

ie. equipment an electrician would need.

That’s quite different to a shop just selling batteries.

Should batteries not be considered as electrical supplies? A car still needs cables. They are not only for electricians. There can be a shop=electrical specializing in only some of those items, not all.
On Github, I was less asking about shops selling all batteries, but more shops selling only computer or phone batteries and chargers. Is shop=battery supposed to be used for both the former and latter? The latter is more likely already =mobile_phone_accessories , and craft=electronics_repair for mainly repairing services.
From FILTER (regex(?name, "batter", "i") && !regex(?name, "tyre|tire", "i") ). , there are 670 =car_parts , and 152 =car_repair (and 11 =electronics_repair )
This suggests batteries are already categorized by what batteries they are, and distinguished by repairing. So on top of the above, =battery needs to consider whether repairing is included.
NSI has another preset using =car_parts , while this brand= only contributes 75 Name Suggestion Index
Compared to =tyres , =tyres are for motorized vehicles only, but =battery can be for any batteries. This is broader than the existing solutions.

Sure you will find some shops selling electric equipment and also batteries for those items. Same for electronic equipment. Also a car workshop will normally be happy to sell you a battery for your car. Supermarkets are offering a limited range of batteries as well. And so on.

There is no catch-all tag for such shops and I do not see any advantage in trying to press all kinds of such different shops into one single shop value which does not fit all of them. A shop specialized in selling only batteries of all kinds is a battery shop and I’d say the best way is to tag it as such.

I’m not asking about =car_repair , but =car_parts , and my query is finding possible specialized shops named after it. =supermarket is a fun joke.
=battery will create 2 competing formats, where battery= can be suggested for other specialized batteries in the future. The naming doesn’t constraint it to all or multiple batteries.
For =electronics , this was mentioned on =radiotechnics and =electronics_repair Proposal:Shop=electronic parts - OpenStreetMap Wiki
I’m thinking the usual discovery process is considering what the batteries are part of first. When there are shops selling all possible batteries, =electrical is acceptable.

the tag could arguably be used for both, subtags could be created to discern, or different top level tags like shop=vehicle_battery, and then there will still be different shops which only sell batteries for small electrical vehicles, and others who only deal specific car batteries. At some point we will want to use combinations of multiple tags to distinguish them, rather than distinct top level tags, but for car battery shops it is not at the shop=electronics/electrical level for me. For car_parts I would from these expect to sell common car parts, not just batteries, e.g. light bulbs, fuses, wipers, oil, and other basics (and much more)

Yes batteries can be something an electrical supplies shop sells, in the same sense that a shop=supermarket also sells things a shop=butcher or a shop=bakery sells.

Where the shop only/mainly sells batteries then shop=battery is a better fit. A battery shop, which sells batteries.

For an example see https://www.batteryworld.com.au/products which is the brand I’m proposing to change in the NSI, they only really sell batteries, but have a wide range of batteries, car batteries, industrial batteries, camping/4wd batteries, golf buggy batteries, marine batteries, etc.

This has been discussed at least once in the past somewhere. Didn’t end in a change away from it. Talk:Tag:shop=car parts - OpenStreetMap Wiki
62 =battery and 4 =batteries car_parts | Keys | OpenStreetMap Taginfo
According to the list, you would need shop=vehicle_accessories , shop=motor_oil , shop=vehicle_window , shop=vehicle_hvac , shop=vehicle_chasis , shop=vehicle_media_systems , shop=engine_starter , shop=alternator , shop=vehicle_gearbox , shop=vehicle_chemicals , shop=vehicle_cargo_carrier , shop=vehicle_exhaust , shop=vehicle_shock_absortbers , shop=vehicle_suspension , shop=engine_radiator , shop=vehicle_engine , etc (already combined and discarded many overlaps)

I wasn’t suggesting =electrical as one of many things they sell, but for use as a category of specialized shops. The analogy is whether you need =beef , =pork , =chicken , =lamb , etc, instead of =butcher , the solution of which is even marked as “de facto” already. Key:butcher - OpenStreetMap Wiki
For =bakery , and =pastry , there’s no =loaf , =bun, =croissant , =tart, =cake , =pie , etc, when shops are dedicated or specialized in selling one of them. At least not yet.
If you use =battery , you would change all other batteries. Including specialized ones currently as others, ie =car_parts for car batteries,

if these shops sell only these items it would indeed be helpful to use a specific tag for them. Or at least a subtag.
