The streets in the Old Town got resurfaced. Currently tagged mostly surface=sett. No doubt that this was then. I thought that paving_stones would be a better fit now.
After having consulted the wiki I found it impossible to tell what the new paving should be tagged. Picture shows the new paving to the right and paving_stones to the left:
Made from stone that is not flat, but was flattened
ADD: Perhaps, the Pflasterstein are not so flat when looked at with a bit of imagination. But the photo certainly not conclusive. Should be a bit at an angle, so detail shows. Maybe hewn flat vs cut flat?
PS: @rhhs Smoothness changes too, is “good” ok? I do not ride a racing bike. Funnily, a part where there is still hewn flat cobblestone sett got tagged smoothness=good by a StreetComplete user two months ago at 02:55 time of day…They did tag that on other of that too. They might be an expert-smoothness-tagger? Curiously another such SC user tagged smoothness=intermediate for some newly surfaced areas…
In the Wiki Documentation this is shown as prime example of surface=sett.
Who to change that image on that page?
PS: I’d argue for pictures that are at an angle and that show something from which dimensions can be learned from even casual observation! This picture is bad on both regards, and when zoomed 1:1 its a flowery mess of pixels.
Thumbs up for changing that picture in the Wiki. Please not post this Pflasterstein_1 image anywhere else, it is just no good in telling both mappers and consumers anything of helping them decide.
May I repeat: Pictures should be at another angle than straight on and show something from which casual observers can learn dimensions at a single glance? I’d say this also applies here: Two salt’n’pepper images, one salt’n’pepper on Mars, one maybe some salt under the microscope? Please excuse perhaps over the top direct language.
I think these is especially smoothly polished sett, so I’d tag it surface=sett + smoothness=good. But I also think sett is a subcategory of paving_stones, so if someone insists to tag it as surface=paving_stones I wouldn’t mind.
Hmm, maybe it is not possible to tell from behind the keyboard. There are contradicting SC mappings of smoothness in the data, some very recent ones at 19:00 hours, where driving there is forbidden and some from 02:30 AM when driving is allowed. Both from people that seem to be keen on mapping the key. I guess, I will not touch on that and only concern myself with surface.
