Hi there everybody,
i am currently working for the German county of Lower-Saxony and would like to correct some school addresses on OSM for public availability. I am not exactly sure if i have to add an extra “Point feature” to an already existing “school ground feature”. Also if there are any other conventions on adding schools please let me know where to look it up
Also if you ever need to look up the more or less correct but official school-data of our schools you can look at Schuldaten Administration
Some terminology: Point features are called nodes.
If there is an area (and not a building) tagged with amenity=school, then you add the address to that area.
If there is only a building tagged with amenity=school, then you add the address to that building.
If there is nothing like that, then you are free to draw the school grounds as an area and tag it with amenity=school, the name and the address, or add a node and tag that with amenity=school, the name and the address, but do not create an area and a node for the same school.

Hello NLQ_Niedersachsen, and welcome to the forum!
Since I can’t find any specific copyright information on the linked “Schuldaten Administration” page, I’m taking this paragraph from the “Imprint” section
as an opportunity to strongly emphasize the importance of respecting copyright on OSM.
Otherwise: Good luck with your edits!

Thank you very much for the fast and very helpful reply
I will do my best to contribute
This Paragraph would refer to privately owned things (by Private schools for example)
I highly doubt that the addresses listed are somehow under copyright
Also on that note, i am a little unsure if I respected all the declarations to OSM in my Application. Could i get back at you, after deployment, to verify that i respected all the things listed in Copyright and License | OpenStreetMap correctly?

Joshua
The addresses are listed in a database. The creator of that database has the copyright over the information they collected in that database under German and EU law. See Datenbankherstellerrecht – Wikipedia for more information. It is my understanding that you work for the creator of that database, so you might be able to add the addresses to OSM if you have permission from your superiors. If that is the case then you just have to list the database as a source in your changeset.

So it seems like this school is in the Dataset but not searchable in this way (wrong school is found see postcode):
What is the Issue here ?
If I capitalize the streetname and country, the school is the first result: Result for Schulhof 6, Deutschland, 49596 | Nominatim

Interesting, I did not expect the search being case sensitive.
thank you again, for helping an OSM-Beginner :)
It seems the Data is ownd by the “NLQ” and in the past it was possible to just ask for a written usage permission … I will try my best to make it more accessible, but do not get your hopes up too much.
