Road network improvements in Ukraine

Hello everyone,

My name is Andrew Wiseman, I work for Apple’s Maps team. My team is interested in doing some work on the highway network in Ukraine on OSM — things like adding missing roads, making sure roads connect properly, fixing incorrect alignments with GPS traces, ensuring road classifications are consistent, and other similar issues.

I wanted to see if the community had suggestions on places that need improvement or types of problems you see frequently?

I am pleasantly surprised by the aspiration of Apple’s Maps team to participate in the project to improve the road network in Ukraine. I hope that the cooperation between the community in Ukraine and the Apple’s Maps will lead to a good result.

At the moment, the Ukrainian community has been using a variety of tools for assessing the quality of data about the state of the road network. One of these is https://pavlo-dudka.github.io/osm-pg-tests/. Despite it nerdy look, it helps to spot some problems in the data in nearly online mode. It would be good to get support from your team to improve its appearance and, if possible, provide computing power to speed up data processing. Знайшов на ґітхабі розділ «Data Team» і зробив РСС-потік їхніх наборів змін по Україні та Білорусі. Поки-що активність проявив тільки IWantToBelieve

Hi all. Andrew again. My team is planning to work on some limited data corrections and improvements to OSM in Ukraine around coastal features and land use and land cover polygons, such as parks, university and hospital campuses, airports and similar features.

For example, sometimes coastlines and national parks are missing a correct tag, or are digitized inaccurately (maybe due to old low resolution imagery) or are overlapping improperly. We will make sure to follow the appropriate OSM and local guidelines. There’s more info here https://github.com/osmlab/appledata/issues/19

Всім привіт. Андрій знову. Моя команда планує працювати над деякими обмеженими виправленнями даних та вдосконаленнями ОСМ в Україні навколо прибережних особливостей та використання земель та полігонів наземного покриття, таких як парки, кампуси університетів та лікарень, аеропорти тощо.

Наприклад, іноді на узбережжі та національних парках відсутній правильний тег, або вони оцифровані неточно (можливо, через старі зображення з низькою роздільною здатністю) або перекриваються неправильно.
