I’ve noticed of late near me (Surrey in the UK) that a few mappers have started to “name” roads by their bridleway/footpath “code” either on the end of a “real” road name e.g. “River Lane (BY 145)” Way: River Lane (BY 145) (79693898) | OpenStreetMap or
“FP 32” Way: FP 32 (298112028) | OpenStreetMap
Now whilst that might be thought as of “helpful” in certain cases, I thought the convention of “Name” is to be what it actually is (say by a street name sign on the ground) and not something “contrived”. Equally if there is no actual name then you just leave this blank.
Also isn’t “prow_ref” meant to where you add these FP 32 & BY 145 etc etc even if some map renderers do not show them.
I am of course loathed to “correct” such things if acceptable but equally we need to adhere to some standards as otherwise everything would be a right mess!
Thoughts welcome.
