In addition to information about whether a road is a designated bike route or has a bike lane, I would like to show the bikeability (rating of how bike friendly a road is) of a road. Would that be something I could add to the open street map database or would I just overlay that information on a map that I create?

It’s very much a live topic and one that needs to be addressed. Adding subjective judgements, though, is not “the OSM way” - we prefer to record the facts and let clients make up their own mind what to do with it. So it’s not an easy one to crack.
OSM not storing subjective data makes sense to me. I don’t know how you would handle reconciling subjective data. With my little project, I will just overlay some polylines. Thanks for your reply.
