Can we think of some tags for shop=* and/or office=* that can be used for specialized shops/offices that primarily sell equipment for dentists (like dentistry chairs and lamps for them, dentistry drills, polymerization lamps, sometimes specialized lenses/glasses)?
I also wonder if craft=* could also use such a tag, since these types of machines could require repair and some of the sellers can also offer such as well.
I think such companies usually are not shops where interested customers walk in and carry a dentist chair away into their premise. In most cases this are branches of manufacturers or representatives where customers can get consultation and may be able to order equipment for their practise. So I’d say this better goes with office=medical_equipment + medical_equipment=dental. There are 3 uses of office=medical_equipment so far.
I’ve tagged them with shop=medical_supply, this one for instance Node: Дентално депо (1699498115) | OpenStreetMap near your activity area. It’s quite normal here (Bulgaria) that sales to professionals such as medical equipment, shop furniture, cash registers, etc. is done from shop-like premises where anyone could walk in.
What is more, I have stumbled on a place that seems to sell both medical professional supplies/equipment and also specific layman toothcare supplies too Node: Placaid (13997787022).
I think it is important to distinguish equipment and supplies, cash registers, medical equipment, specialized furniture and similar are not items one would expect at a shop self declaring to sell supplies, while the other way around is more likely.
I read your post a few times but still am not sure if I understand what you want to say.
A premise that looks like a shop can be tagged as a shop (it’s duck tagging) even though it mostly sells to businesses. Here in Sofia they are quite common; another example from a different culture is Kappabashi-dori in Tokyo Way: Kappabashi Kitchenware Town (860559019) | OpenStreetMap that is a district for restaurant equipment shops, most of them tagged as shop=houseware
Actually I think your post coupled with Map_HeRo’s clarifies it - the medical_supplykey coupled with the shop or officekeys are enough for what I am trying to map. Its just that office=medical_supplyis very rare and does not appear in the iD editor’s autocomplete.
medical_supplyis used as a key on its own, so office=medical_supplymakes more sense and is aligned with the general practice of naming related tags/keys.
I meant to say that there should be 2 distinct values, medical supply and medical equipment, and they have different meaning. A cash register or furniture is not a “supply”
Thanks! In comparison with the rich choice of tag values in the shop=* key for business-to-consumer traders, there are very few values to choose from for business-to-business traders. B2B (including factories, etc.) is a poorly developed niche in OSM.
