[RFC] Feature Proposal – Taxidermy

Following previous discussion on another proposal, I have composed a proposal to create documented tags for taxidermist businesses.

I have personally mapped a couple of taxidermists now, and have been dissatisfied with the absence of a documented tag for this feature.

Taginfo shows that several different tags have been used to try and represent these features. I have linked to those on the wiki page.

As such, I propose adding two new tags, craft=taxidermist and shop=taxidermist to the documentation to represent a business where a carcass can be brought to make a taxidermy mount, and a business where pre-made taxidermy mounts can be purchased, respectively.

dermist or dermy?

The proposal says dermy?

On that, it also says shop=taxidermy : A novelty store where pre-made taxidermy mounts are available for sale.

I’ve seen a number of https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:shop%3Dhunting which also carry a range of (usually) game-head mounts, so would you then include taxidermy_mounts=yes or similar under them?

I would rather expect a generic tag such as product or sells for that purpose.

oops, I mistyped it on this post. I intend to propose craft=taxidermy and shop=taxidermy, not taxidermist. I suppose both could work if taxidermist is more appropriate than taxidermy. I’m not sure which is preferred.

I haven’t thought of this use case, but I would be interested in having a way to represent whether or not taxidermy mounts are sold at a shop=hunting.

Looking it up, some stores do exist that primarily just offer taxidermy mounts. I linked one on the examples section of the wiki proposal.
