Request: new value for key archaeological_site

Hi!

I asked for this on Matrix osm room and I was told to ask here too.

Among archaeological_site s key (Key:archaeological_site - OpenStreetMap Wiki), a value is rock_painting (To specify an archaeological site as a rock painting.).

It is also needed a value rock_sounding (or rock_acoustic or similar) for rocks known through History for their acoustic properties (such as producing big echoes, so people used to believe those rocks talked). In Galicia and other places of Atlantic West such as Ireland, Wales or Scotland there are a lot of rocks known as talking rocks and also litophones

For litophones, see for example Azerbaijan comment, and also France pierres creuses or “hollow stones” in https://www.lithophones.com/historical

See also https://www.ifrao.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/10CupLithophone.pdf

Thanks!

Are these really best described as archeological sites (a subtag of historic=) and not geological formations (a subtag of natural=)?

I think so, as this is more related to human behaviour than to Earth independent processes.

It is just an exact equivalent of rock_painting. The same as for landscapes there exist the acoustic equivalent soundscapes.

Yes, do it! Tags dont have to be on the wiki before use.

For the value I recommend a typical english term, because other values of archaelogocal_site are used like that. So I prefer =litophone or =sounding_rock over =rock_sounding. As I am no native english speaker I might be wrong about what is used typically in english.

I’d like to remark that not all such rocks are litophones, other are “talking rocks” etc.
