Replacing "country" with "place" template in the Wiki

I’d like to switch the IL Wiki from the {Country} template to the {Place} template and turn off the Leaflet map. Justification:

  • The big horizontal banner with the flag is disruptive, and all of its links are broken since we do not use the predefined sections.
  • The map is not useful and slows down the Wiki page load times.
  • I prefer a clean, to the point aesthetic without noise.

I kind of liked the “Country” look more as it looks more “official” and expected to make a better impression on newcomers.

After switching, it looks more laconic, so maybe it’s also good.

I’m not against the switch, let’s keep and see.

I’m also used to the look, but I think we’re viewing this from the lens of experienced users who are mentally used to ignoring the actual contents of the banner.

If you try to step back and think as an actual new user, I think it’s clear that it’s confusing and time-consuming to read text with broken links. I also think it draws needless energy from readers (especially slow readers), before they get to the actual content.
