Following on from the Wiltshire tag-correction project (PRoW Open Data: 55 new MapRoulette challenges for Wiltshire’s missing/incorrect designation/prow_ref tags), I’ve now cross-referenced Shropshire Council’s official Rights of Way dataset against live OSM data using the same methodology.
Shropshire Council publishes its PRoW GIS data under a derived-data exemption from the Open Government Licence (Contains OS data © Crown Copyright), checked directly rather than assumed compatible. Cross-referencing it against OSM turned up a large number of candidate ways across the county — missing designation/prow_ref tags entirely, or carrying incorrect ones — grouped into 52 settlement-level clusters.
As with Wiltshire, I’m starting with a single small pilot cluster before scaling to the rest: Morda-6 (5 tasks), now live on MapRoulette. Same rules apply: this is tag-correction, not an import — no new geometry, every task asks a human to compare the proposed tag against the official reference data and the way’s real-world location, and a genuine mismatch gets marked “Too Hard” rather than guessed at. Attribution to Shropshire Council is included in the changeset on every accepted edit.

As before, I’d welcome anyone trying the challenge, and especially any feedback on the tagging approach or task quality before I extend this to the other 51 clusters. Also happy to hear if there’s a particular county or area people would like to see prioritised next.
Many thanks,
Chris
