There is a dataset for address points across the entirety of NSW available at https://portal.spatial.nsw.gov.au/portal/home/item.html?id=d3cf7c7edef14ca18248c6dc5fcaff96, these could be compared against the DCS NSW Base Map to check if they’re correct. The data is available under Creative Commons so we can use it.
Being CC doesn’t inherently mean we can use it, is this dataset covered by an existing waiver?
Not sure but it might be?
Edit: National Geocoded addresses were rejected, but state-wide addresses were not asked for permission yet Australian Data Sources - OpenStreetMap Wiki
Please see Import/Guidelines - OpenStreetMap Wiki
I worked on, and performed the Victoria, VicMap Address Import previously, and plan to work through something similar for NSW at some point, hopefully later this year, but I hadn’t found the time yet.
While that shouldn’t block anyone from volunteering to work on either their own proposal or to collaborate, in my view it should be carefully considered and worked through.
Previously @ArchangelEkim has flagged interested in collaborating on it.
It’s the same data.
In NSW it was requested and obtained, see Australian Data Sources - OpenStreetMap Wiki specifically under DCS Foundational Spatial Data.
Would this import be under Import/Catalogue/Australia NSW Property and Address Import - OpenStreetMap Wiki or would we need to make a new one? The goal is the same but the process isn’t.
Edit: They already did most of the work but paused because they don’t know if they have permission to use all of it, since we have a different data source we can probably just continue from what has already been done and finish it.
If you’re proposing a new process, then a new proposal please.
I believe it’s the same data source. I haven’t reviewed Dion’s code in detail, and I wasn’t involved with the original import, but from what I can tell it relies a bit on manual conflation (though I might be wrong).
I’m interested in getting vicmap2osm generalised to accept VIC, NSW, QLD, ACT data as inputs and see what the outputs look like.
It looks like the original import didn’t split units and instead left them in housenumber, and it didn’t do things like create addr:flats for unit ranges, things that were done in the vicmap import, that I’d like to have done for a NSW import.
