I think it is imporant to distinguish between a reaction and the
being used in the body of a post.
There is no way that anyone is able to read the mind of someone clicking on the reaction, a mere single character, to determine what each of the people reacting with that emoji meant by it, unless they specifically said “I reacted
because XYZ.”
If someone is using in the body of a message for bullying, then that behavior should simply be reported to the moderation team.
For example, @dieterdreist reacted to your post. Did he mean:
- I like your message so much that I want to hug you?
- You sound like you need a hug (comforting)
- You sound like you need a hug (patronizing)
- I want to express something else and this is the closest emoji
- I am clapping approvingly at your response, because the hug emoji kind of looks like someone clapping
None of us know because we are not in @dieterdreist’s brain and cannot read his thoughts.
