Problem adding house numbers to existing house block areas in a suburban region

As a first-time user of the OSM iD-Editor, yesterday I added house numbers to a row of 14 houses on the south side of Morton Street, Queanbeyan, NSW, Australia. The house numbers added were 2, 4 ,6… 28.

My problem is that, while all the numbers and house area rectangles are still visible today in OSM iD-Editor, four of the numbers (6, 10, 26 28) don’t appear in the end-user OSM map, and one of the house rectangles (number 4) is only partly drawn, concealing its number.

To see the problem , open OSM at OpenStreetMap.

Why is it so?

Any helpful advice would be welcome!

I think this was mostly either a caching issue or a slight delay in refreshing some of the tiles (the partly drawn building is a hint at the latter).

I can see all the numbers now (if I zoom in far enough) except number 10. Unlike the other buildings, I don’t see a tag for number 10 in the data.

I’ve no idea if this is related to the issues you mentioned, but of the addr:housenumber tag the wiki says:

Please do not only tag addr:housenumber=*, but also add at least addr:street=* or addr:place=* for places without streets

So even if this doesn’t fix the rendering issue, it’s best to add the street name as well.

If you have an Android device and are able-bodied (lots of walking around!), I highly recommend the StreetComplete app for adding house numbers, just switch to the Addresses overlay and you get an integrated UI for street name picker, house number, and unit number.

You are absolutely correct about my house number problem being no more than an initial “caching issue”. Today I see all the numbers that I entered. I didn’t type in a number for house 10, because, right now, it’s a vacant block.

While the rendering issue may be solved, it is still a good point from @GuardedBear that addr:housenumber is usually combined with at least one other address tag, most commonly addr:street. That is likely to be helpful for searching for an address, for example. See the tagging on buildings on Atkinson Street nearby.
