Possible alternative to "transparent" trail marks

I’ve just learned about an optional excursion role for recreational route relations. The wiki describes it as:

A signposted or otherwise waymarked side track which rejoins the main track at or close to the same point where it left, e.g. to visit a place of interest. The excursion is an optional addition to the main route.

It looks like a perfect description of the role of “transparent” trail marks.

This approach

  • Avoids the need to create a separate relation for transparent trails
  • Avoids the need to use the infamous black:white “best compromise” value for the osmc:symbol of that relation

What do you think?

Sounds like a perfect fit.

My only question is around the current duplication between colour tag on the way and colour tag on the relation.

If we keep this duplication it’s not clear what should be the colour tag for the relevant ways.

In any case, I’m in favor of keeping the data only on the relations and not duplicate it to the ways.
