For example: there is a fire station. There is a building type for fire station, but you can also have a point/pin for fire station. Is there a standard/common practice for using one over the other, or using both? Thanks
I’m guessing that you what you are saying is that there is both a way with building=fire_station and a node with amenity=fire_station. Please provide the identity of the objects on the map, in future.
In that case, the node should be deleted or moved onto the way outline and its tags removed, and the amenity=fire_station added onto the way. (If the fire station has a yard, a separate way, enclosing both the building and the yard, should be used to carry the amenity tag.
I don’t think many data consumers would look for the specific building type.
