I open this topic to give some updates about Podoma software project. I had the opportunity last week to introduce it at FOSDEM conference. It’s now ready to get used and also improved if necessary.
Podoma is a sort of spin off from French initiative, projetdumois.fr used to ease the monitoring of Project of the month there since 2020. It has got its own wiki page for all details.
It is an instance oriented software that allow administrators to define particular projects that matter for them. Users are then able to get daily updated dashboard, customized editor and consume KPI through API. It frees everyone from the hassle to gather detailed insights about how the contribution is going daily on a particular area or on a particular topic. It is mostly based on top of Osmium software. Currently the most used measurements regarding a particular filter are:
- Amount of features, amount of mappers involved
- Deltas contributed by a given user or team
- Length of ways
- Surface of areas
Since its usage to monitor contribution related to corporate partnerships in France in 2021, it has been crucial last year for MapYourGrid initiative. We found applicable solutions to extend it for worldwide daily monitoring on 6 different topics.
But it’s also only the begging of the story. It’s far from perfect, suffer from technical debt and misses other features to be even more useful. It would be really interesting to get feedback for other initiatives that may benefit from such monitoring in their area. It could only improve from a shared effort in our community.
