Hi! I have a question on the tagging of railway platform sections.
The short wiki page for railway:platform:section says that platform sections should be mapped only as nodes and this is reflected by the actual tagging.
This seems to be optimized for countries (e.g. Germany) where platform sections are points, i.e. there is a single sign for each “section” of the platform which marks its location. This is the following situation:
My question is about the other countries (e.g. Switzerland) where platform sections are, well, sections. In these locations, the signs on the platform mark both the end of one section and the start of another one. They are labeled with two different letters. Departure displays also show the limits of these sections, whereas in Germany they only show the letters at the locations where the respective signs are.
As the wiki tells us to create the platform section node “in the middle of the section to be marked”, I would map this according to the wiki as:
However, I don’t like this arbitrarily chosen node to represent something which is a section of the platform edge with a clearly defined start and end. I think it would be more natural to map these sections as ways. So I would rather see something like this:
Was this type of platform sections simply not taken into account when the tagging for platform sections was created or is there a reason to even in these cases map the platform sections as nodes?
Bonus question: How should the platform_section_sign be tagged in these cases? Both values separated by a semicolon, as I did in my example? Two separate nodes for each value close together?
