PayPal subscription was cancelled

Hello,

I got a message from PayPal, stating that OSMF has cancelled my subscription.

Message was:

We stop all recurring payments of all members to prevent inadvertent double payment.

As I suspect that my membership fees are due in a few weeks, what is now the process to pay for them? I liked the hassle-free automatic deduction.
Will I receive now an invoice with payment details once membership fees are due?
I think something like this was the process before it was switched to automatic payment. But I really don’t remember details as this was now working fine for the last years. If PayPal is right, then since 2019.

Will it be possible to set up recurring payments again? I miss a bit the extra communication about this. Also in the forum I found discussions about CiviCRM bugs, but no clear indication that payments are stopped for all members.

@drolbr I guess treasurer@osmfoundation.org is you. This was listed as contact by PayPal. Can you please comment a bit about the situation and planned next steps regarding payments?

I received a similar notification the other day. Today I received a followup from the Membership Working Group with more details, noting that I’ll need to renew my membership manually from now on. It should’ve gone out to everyone affected. Roland mentioned to me that there will also be a blog post.

I received a message from OSMF two hours ago now as well.

As long as email reminders can be delivered, I think this will allow to renew the membership in time.

And maybe CiviCRM will get replaced by a less problematic system somewhere in the future which brings back the convenience of automatic renewal.

For those without the automatic PayPal renewals and curious, this is the message sent out:

Until we find a proper solution, all membership renewals will need to be done manually. We understand that this may cause some inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding. We have set up an automatic reminder system and you will likely receive automatic email reminders before your membership is due to end.

The automatic reminder emails sent four and two weeks before your membership ends will contain a link which you can use to renew. You will also get additional reminders if you let your membership lapse, spaced out over several months.

I assume that this communication and renewal cancelation overlapped or couldn’t be synchronized as I received the PayPal message 3 days ago early morning.
