I have been trying to find names of cities, POIs and streets with varying levels of success. Today I tried searching for a place and a street which i can see on the map, but the search yielded no results.
Tried, amongst others, ‘College of Information Technology and Engineering’, Kathmandu, Nepal. OSM showed no results, even though I can see it plotted on the map.
While I’ve not encountered this exact same problem, I’ve also occasionally had some issues with Nominatim (the software component behind OpenStreetMap’s search function). Usually it works, but not always the way that we users spoiled by modern search engines would expect.
There isn’t really an alternative to Nominatim, though, and as an open-source project they would probably like help.
