I’m new at OSM and QGIS, so please excuse me in advance for asking questions that are not well formulated. N00b…:D:D
So, I downloaded several .osm maps from OPNV Karte, specifically so that I could use bus lines of my city (Split, Croatia), and loaded them into QGIS. However, since I am new at working with QGIS, I couldn’t get it to show me bus lines and bus stops. I got everything else, but, that wasn’t what I wanted to see. Has anyone had this issue before? Tried googling it, but didn’t find anything useful.
Maybe I have to start some layer, or something…
Thanks!
Thanks for the answers. I am using 1.8 Lisboa… Maybe that is causing the problem?
The plugin works fine, I think that the problem is in my lack of knowledge, because it loads polygons, lines and points.
Maybe it should load something else too?
Thanks for the answer, I didn’t know about Maperitive until now.
The thing that bugs me is this: I found the map of my city with bus routes on OPNV Karte. And I can’t figure out how to extract only the routes of the buses…
I can’t seem to make it via Potlach, better yet I don’t know how.
Any suggestions?
Thx.
Send me a link to some route or dataset you are interested in and I will give advice how to convert data to something that can be used in QGIS with the GDAL OSM driver http://www.gdal.org/ogr/drv_osm.html.
I first thought that you wanted to edit the route data in the OSM database with QGIS. GDAL cannot be used for that but it is very good in converting OSM data into GIS formats.
It was implemented into GDAL trunk in summer 2012 and published officially with GDAL 1.10 release. New driver was announced in OSM-dev mailing list 2012-07-12 but it has not gained much attention among OSM folks. I consider it is a very good bridge from OSM to GIS for moderate amounts of data. Something like Germany.osm.pbf can be imported within 15 minutes with a good laptop. Spatialite is a pretty good target and the following command can be used as a template.
