OSM canada - maps look different with garmin base camp and web OSM

hi,

im a beginner with OSM. we’ll travel to canada for vacation and plan some hikes. therefore i need OSM canada on my garmin device. i downloaded from https://www.openmapchest.org/ a version, but it looks completely different (lots of transverse stripes in garmin view) from the OSM map i find here (http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/75115772#map=14/50.1182/-122.9229)

OSM with garmin base camp

OSM with web interface

do i do a mistake in download the wrong file or does OSM for garin looks in this way?

thanks
bjoern

There is no reason why they would look the same, except in as much as roads, building outlines, and boundaries should be in the same position.

with the transverse stripes it is difficult to use with the garmin device. i already saw OSM on garmins without the stripes. So the question is: how to??

As far as I know, Garmin maps are vector maps, so the rendering is done in the device.

However, I think there isn’t a one to one relation between OSM feature types and Garmin types, so it may be possible to create a map that represents OSM features with Garmin features that Garmin renders more to your liking.

Hi, you mentioned transverse stripes, a problem with diagonal lines was answered here :- https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=58807

Does it help?
