Organization changed MRT station name tags to station code, how to proceed?

Hi all,

I am using OSM data on Singapore’s public transport for my app and I noticed a user has recently changed ( Changeset: 180700485 | OpenStreetMap ) some of the railway stations’ name and name:en tags from their station names to their station codes, which doesn’t seem to be the convention for MRT stations.

After reaching out via discussion, they explained that the change was requested by their institution’s management and that they use MazeMap (which uses OSM as basemap) and would like to somehow override the name displayed on the map.

I believe that the name and name:en tags should be the station name to be consistent with the rest of the data, but I’m new to contributing on OSM and not sure what’s the right way to approach this.

What name is used on the ground at the stations? That is what should be used.

The stations are still under construction, so I don’t think there’s any physical label yet. Based on URA (gov agency) and Wikipedia, the names should be “Peng Kang Hill”, “Nanyang Crescent”, and “Nanyang Gateway”.

Such shorthand codes should indeed be placed in ref:*=, with the full common name in name=. The organization should make a feature request (or use an existing feature?) to MazeMap to override the name with the abbreviation codes on their custom map renders.
