Optimum use of notes

it was unclear where speed limit changes

It is a very common situation when driving when you are driving through a section where the map shows one permitted speed, and the road sign shows another. Do you propose to abandon such malfunction signals on the map? In favor of some more convenient solution for such conditions?

Edits were still requiring on the ground verification as they were not from some trustworthy account.

Don’t all Notes require a detailed solution on the spot? I thought that was how it worked.

they plan to process this notes

I always leave Notes specifically for others who have more time / competence / extroversion / opportunity than me. And I never intend to process my Notes (made via StreetComplete) myself. Am I using the functionality of StreetComplete’s seemingly straightforward interface incorrectly?

What is “minor unimportant things” depends on area

I have seen situations where my Notes were closed simply because the user who closed them was not personally interested in them and did not intend to close them. Is this a common practice on OSM?

It’s OK to leave notes that you don’t intend to resolve yourself, but I would suggest always asking yourself “is there a good reason to direct other mappers’ attention to this specific location”?

Examples have already been given earlier in the thread. Incorrect or obsolete data is usually a fair reason to leave a note. Missing data may be worth noting if it is something that is usually mapped in the area. But I wouldn’t leave a note for a missing property of a point of interest that is also missing from many other POIs in an area.

E.g. sometimes I want to map opening hours of a shop but can’t do so because it is closed. In theory I could leave a note in the hope that another mapper will visit when the shop is open. But I wouldn’t do that, because missing opening hours are very common and there is no reason to ask other mappers to pay special attention to that one example.

yes, pointing out missing information isn’t useful, what is useful is providing the missing data. If in your example the person had provided the opening hours instead, the creation of a note would have been well-founded.

only if it is provided in form that can be verified without resurveying
