We’d like to inform you that OptimoRoute will be conducting an organised editing activity starting in May 2026, focused on improving the accuracy of truck (HGV) access information across various regions in Canada. Our work will be limited to adding missing constraint tags on existing ways, such as hgv, maxheight, maxweight:hgv, and similar tags.
You can find more information about our project, including objectives, data sources, and editing techniques, on our Organised Editing page.
Because local laws and documents in Canada are not automatically in the public domain, all mapping will rely exclusively on street-level imagery such as Bing Streetside and Mapillary.
We welcome your feedback and any questions you may have. Feel free to contact us at osm@optimoroute.com.
I have no actual objection, in fact I am quite grateful for any data you generate, OSM is lacking these attributes too often. But the language in this post rubbed me the wrong way a bit, “will be” not “would like to”, and “starting in May 2026” AKA anytime from tomorrow…
@CjMalone Thank you for the comments. OSM Organised Editing Guidelines mention that an “explicit go-ahead from the community is not required”, and that informing the community “should be done no less than two weeks before the activity is started”.
We do not have an exact start date yet, but we will certainly respect the two week notice period. So yes, “starting in the second half of May 2026” would have been a better wording.
Aw c’mon, we all need a laugh every once in a while. I can’t help but laugh when hearing about drivers who get wedged on the lower deck of the Centre Street Bridge, or one of the many underpasses between 9th and 10th Avenues downtown.
