The class is what gets archived, rather than an individual feature. We used to tag the feature’s GNIS class, but the consensus was to remove that information. As it is, keeping OSM in sync with GNIS is already such a large task without attempting to mirror the structure of that dataset. One can more or less assume that any amenity=place_or_worship or amenity=fire_station in GNIS has been archived.
If we need to link to a single site that has all of GNIS, regardless of archival status, maybe someone could set up a simple redirection service.
