We have started the maintenance, but expect the maintenance to be shorter than planned. We have decided to cancel part of the maintenance due to us finding an issue and abundance of caution.
We will unfortunately have to schedule another maintenance window to complete the planned upgrade.

The maintenance has now been completed. As mentioned above, we decided to postpone a portion of the maintenance until a later date.
For the sake of understanding: What does it mean for the mapping-API to be in read-only mode ? Intuitively, I understand read-only as: data can be extracted (“read”) but not updated (“write”). This was, however, not the case during maintenance. It was not possible to download data using JOSM unless switching to overpass. The database was simply offline.
Do I misunderstand the meaning of read-only in this context ?
No that was an error in the announcement - it was going to be in offline mode for this maintenance not read-only.
Got every 5 minutes or so a pop-up message in JOSM advising that the database was not reachable.
