Before the latest phone wide, I used AndOsm, I could not use it as a map at all, I don’t remember why but always ended up going to google maps in the browser instead.
At this time, this website almost works for me and I would already be happier if I could just hide the navigation block that takes half the screen while keeping the travel path
The button on the right side of the map shows your current location and tracks it as you move. This is mostly for convenience as you browse the map. It isn’t really a GPS tracking feature.
No, this functionality is not available as part of the main website. This directions listing is mainly a tool for quality assurance, though you can also use it for route planning to some extent. For real-time turn-by-turn navigation, please consider using a mobile application, which can integrate more directly with your phone’s sensors for better reliability. Our wiki has a partial listing of OSM-based navigation applications for Android that you can choose from.
OSMAND is an app, not a website (well, there is a web site, too). However there may be an issue if you try to open addresses in other apps, causing that OSMAND does not handle them.
While I can manage to use the website as it is and often do, that large box taking half the screen make it very difficult, if anything could be done, a way to just hide this box without also remove the active route would be great
of much lesser importance
I tried the button but it gives an error, probably because I do not have google location services installed (I have removed everything google that I could and never pressed “I agree” on anything on my phone)
(there was a screenshot here, but I got the error message ”An error occurred: Sorry, new users can only put one embedded media item in a post.”)
(The screenshot showed an error message that said “Geolocation error: Unknown error acquiring position“)
Also, I notice that if there were a fullscreen button somewhere, that would also greatly help with the text that is always a little too small, no matter how much I zoom in.
I’ll give the apps a try again, but I try not having any apps on my phone if I can help it. Although, of course that is
The website is just relaying the information that your browser is unable to acquire your current location. I guess you’d want to install a browser that can use something other than Google Location Services. But ultimately an application is what you need for this task, not a website in a browser. Turn-by-turn navigation requires access to a number of system functions that browsers don’t provide, not just high-quality geolocation.
