Whilst using OpenStreetMap in-car sat nav.
I set a destination, and as a trial, ignored the directions to check the alternative route/s
There were two notable times I was badly advised.
The first was to turn down a green lane, I think perhaps this is my fault, with my preferences for my vehicle.
The second.
a dual-carriage town road (40mph), with a junction controlled by traffic lights. At the traffic junction, there is a sign, No U-turn.
because I was off course,
The satnav was telling me to U-turn, I ignored the instruction.
On getting home, I searched, but could not find a way.
Is there a way to address these âbad messagesâ wherever they appear?
Or mark the position of the sign or edit the satnav instructions?
You can either fix it yourself by editing the OSM data, (likely we need to add a restriction relation) or by asking the community to fix it. If you choose the latter, you should provide more details such as specific location, navigation system or app, etc.
Forgive me, I am still finding my way around and am not code savvy.
To be honest, I thought that I was posting in the Community, or is there a Country, regional community?
The bit that Iâm wary of is that Iâll be asked to do x and y in âtechâ terms, so I would need some coaching.
Thatâs no problem, thanks for taking the time! If you have a specific question, please raise it with all details, so we can talk about it.
In some cases, and there is no shame to it, it can be helpful if someone else maps the issue, so you can see how it is done. If youâd like that and show interest, just ask and provide the necessary details.
OSM just provides the data. So we/youâd need to figure out whether the data in OSM is wrong or the sat nav app doesnât recognise turn restrictions.
To determine whether the data in OSM is wrong, you have to find the intersection on osm.org and check the ways there if they follow the Relation:restriction - OpenStreetMap Wiki guidelines.
If youâd like help with that, please link here the relevant intersection with a description of what should happen. This also applies to your first report.
You have posted to the OSM community, but itâs not clear what exactly you want from us.
FYI, there is also a community dedicated to UK mapping: United Kingdom - OpenStreetMap Community Forum
But you only need to post there for UK specific issues, or to find solutions to use for the local community. Itâs not wrong to post here too for general questions.
Thank you Jofban, for your time, help and assistance - It was good how you responded by breaking down each section.
If anything, Iâve learnt there is a UK section.
Thanks for the link, I have now posted on there.
