As BC explained you can adjust the background imagery to a certain extent in the iD web editor controls. Sometimes the imagery is just dark though, even in the same project, the imagery can have good, bright imagery and then other spots can have darker, less clear imagery.

@hadw: the iD editor is not HOTOSM specific, the Tasking Manager that coordinates the mapping is a HOT tool.

The “About” page on the Tasking Manager has links to get more support, mainly an email to mapper-support@hotosm.org is a good place to ask any HOT mapping questions.

There is also a “Questions and Comments” tab on any of the projects and a “Contact the Project Creator” button, you can use those as well, but for sure the mapper-support@hotosm.org email will get answered.
