For readers outside the UK: a Public Right of Way (PRoW) is a legally defined path (footpath, bridleway, byway) recorded by each local council in a Definitive Map. OSM tags these with designation=public_footpath (etc.) and prow_ref= matching the council’s own reference number — but a lot of UK ways carry neither tag, or an incomplete one.
I’ve set up 55 MapRoulette challenges for Wiltshire, cross-referencing OSM ways against the council’s own Open Government Licence (OGL, ODbL-compatible) PRoW dataset. Each task shows the official reference number and asks the mapper to compare the existing way against it before accepting the suggested tags — this is tag correction on existing geometry, not an import, and every edit needs a human decision (requireConfirmation is on).

A 45-task pilot batch already went through this process cleanly (25 fixed, 18 already correct, 2 flagged too-hard for manual review) before the full 2,540-task rollout. If this is useful, I’m happy to extend it to other English/Welsh counties with open PRoW data.
