New Maproulette challenge: Switzerland - Missing Buildings

Hi OSM Switzerland :switzerland:!

I’d like to share a new MapRoulette challenge for Switzerland: Switzerland - Missing Buildings (248 tasks).

The challenge identifies locations where buildings may be missing from OSM. In some cases, available sources and imagery do not fully agree, so local knowledge and additional verification can help determine whether a building is actually present and how it should be mapped.

Anyone interested in contributing, or providing feedback is very welcome.

Guidance is available in both the challenge description and the task instructions.

Thanks,
Priscilla - TomTom

It would be quite useful if you could provide the reason, why a specific task was created and if possible the estimated size of the building and the moment when the source of your source was created.

For example in this (first) task MapRoulette I don’t know if “your magic system” identified the whole pavement as a “building” or the container, which is apparently standing there.

Thanks for the feedback. The leads were generated from addresses that appear not to have a corresponding mapped building in OSM. However, an address does not always imply the existence of a building. It may refer to a property, parcel, container location, or another addressable feature, and in some cases there may be no building present at all.

The purpose of the challenge is therefore to verify these situations using local knowledge and available sources. The example you shared could very well be a case where the address relates to the property in general rather than an unmapped building. Thanks for highlighting it.

We also do not have information about the vintage of the original address data used to generate these leads. In some cases, the address may be more recent than the available imagery, while in others the imagery may not reflect the current situation on the ground. This is where local knowledge and mapper verification are especially valuable to confirm the actual status and determine whether any mapping action is needed.

Okay, I understand you don’t know about the vintage of the address. But from which source are the addresses?

Thank you. I also understand your question, however, as the candidates come from an aggregation of multiple sources within our internal database, including user reports, I can’t point to a single reference source for a given address.

Then, it makes local knowledge and mapper feedback especially valuable when assessing these tasks.

If you notice that a significant proportion of the cases, like the one you reported, are not actually related to buildings but instead correspond to properties or other features, please let me know. I’d be happy to review the challenge creation process with our team and see whether adjustments are needed.
