Hello. New user. I am trying to add this trail to OSM and fee like I have followed all the instructions but it doesn’t show up. This is on the south side of Grande Prairie, Alberta. I’m hoping I am just missing some minor detail. I was hoping someone could help me out - I can’t find the answer on previous discusssions.
It’s just incorrect tagging - trail=* alone isn’t enough to make it render
Thank you! I changed the lines to marked_trail which is one of the offerings. The trail still doesn’t seem to be showing up. Must be something else I’m missing, or maybe it takes a while to actually load the trail?
Use Tag:highway=path - OpenStreetMap Wiki on the trail, or if there are already paths/tracks mapped in the region you can add your trail as a relation on top of it.
Can you link us to the region, as the only name=Wedgewood Loop in OSM at the moment is Way: Wedgewood Loop (145224870) | OpenStreetMap …
With a bit of searching I found Way: 1527673314 | OpenStreetMap and some adjacent ones.
As @Sharko_J says, the way needs some more information, at least a highway=path or highway=track depending on the situation on the ground is needed.

Is there a way I can link you to the trace?
You can upload GPX traces to your user profile: My Traces
Then use the “OpenStreetMap GPS Traces” option in the iD editor to overlay it on the imagery to draw the paths with.
There’s no need to link us to the trace, as the data is already in the OpenStreetMap database, just in a way that it is neither (easily) found nor rendered.
I looked at the region in JOSM, the path/track is visible in the (LIDAR-based) digital terrain model and lots of it lights up in the Strava Heatmap.
@KYAmbulator If you have more information on the track/path/loop, it would be good to link it here. Mainly we’d like to know where the GPX data comes from; did you run/walk/ride the trail yourself or did you download the data from somewhere? Also: do you want to add the highway=path or highway=track tags to the uploaded data yourself? In the ‘Edit’ mode you can switch the “Background settings” to “High Resolution Digital Elevation Model Mosaic (DTM)”, then you see the digital terrain model, where the trail is visible in large parts, even under the tree covering. This makes it possible to align it properly to what’s ‘on the ground’.

This trace was made from one of my Strava recordings. I run/bike this trail frequently - is very popular in my area but doesn’t show up on any topo maps or even MTB trail maps so just trying to help the community out. Am I adding highway=path to the “Tag”?
What I did was imported the GPX into the trace - followed it by laying down the dots manually. Is there a way that this is done automatically?

You all have been amazing! This is my first exposure to this community and I’m blown away at the help.
I’m seeing the trail show up, fragmented, with only certain parts of the trail visiable depening on if I’m zoomed out or not. For comparison, just west of the area we are working on there are the “wax wings” which shows up great.
When adding Tags is there a way to add it to the whole loop. When I laid down the dots I wasn’t able to join the entire thing. I should also mention there are two loops here “Wax Wings East” and the “Wedgewood Loop”. I’ll add the north south part of the Wax Wings Loop.

These highway=path or highway=track as in https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/1527673311/history do show up with websites and apps that use OpenStreetMap data as a base for their maps.

Thanks everyone for the input. The trail shows up on OSM and now shows up on other systems that use OSM - I was able to get it onto my watch.
This is the issue now - the trail is so small/faint/light that even at max zoom I can barely see it on my map/device. Some other trails in the area are thick black lines. How would we change it so the trail is dark and the trail easier to see?
That depends.
Are properties tagged according to the truth in the ground?
surface
access
width
smoothness
If these properties vary along the way it needs to be split at the points where properties change.
Do not set properties to force a certain appearance in a certain map product.
Once the trail is tagged it is up to the map makers and not in our hands anymore.
