In 2023, burundi decided to reorganized its internal admin boundaries and it became effective in 2026. To my knowledge, there is not yet official shapefiles with the new division. Based on the law, I have remerged the smallest units into new communes and provinces in QGIS (see the map attached). I would like to know what would be the best way to apply those changes into OSM.
I’m sorry to be a pain, but the first question that we have to ask is Where did you get the information from? Is it licensed to be distributed / used, or held under Copyright?
Thanks for your response and the question. The information comes from the official document with the law deciding the new admin division (attached). So I merged the smallest entities according to this document to recreate the new admin division of the country.
Before you can legally use that information in OSM, you will need to contact the Burundi Government, possibly directly to the Office of the President?, & ask if you may use that data to update OSM?
If so, great!
That would then give you a lead to found out what other government data may be available that can also be used?
