Natural:wood vs. Landuse:forest

They are rendered in different colors in mapnik.
I think Landuse:forest is more accurate for the majority of forests in Israel, which are managed, if not planted.
Is there a way to batch-convert them from wood to forest?

I agree that in most cases (e.g. all KKL forests) it’s better to tag them as landuse=forest.

There are 26 natural=wood in all of israel_and_palestine. Hardly worth the batch-convert…

They are needed to be looked at by a human, because some of them might be natural=wood.

Looking deeper into it there seems to be a lot of mess regarding landuse.

There are open areas tagged landuse:maddow which should be natural:scrub (בתה)
There are cultivated lands tagged landuse:farm which should be landusel:farmland

Another issue is military bases, some have been mapped, some not, can more of them be mapped without breaking the Israeli law?

It has some good insights.

Some of the conclusions:
There’s no way to block non-Israelis to add military features.
Some military bases have road signs leading to them.
The information is freely and easily available in other internet resouces (e.g. wikimapia, wikipedia, google satellite imagery, etc.)
Most military features are “uninteresting” to terrorists. Malls, schools, cinemas, theatres, etc. are more “interesting” to them, and we’re not going to stop mapping those…

I think this tag is quite new. I’m changing them when I see one, but I don’t see a reason to go through them manually.
They are rendered the same way and used for “almost” the same purpose.

It’s landuse=meadow, and I’m not sure we shouldn’t keep some of them, and not change them to natural=scrub.

Generally speaking, we have few meadows in Israel, heavily grazed scrubs turn to desert instead of meadows. What we almost never have (except in the high Hermon) in heaths. I’ve seen these tags as well.

I’m guessing there shouldn’t be any natural heath areas near Netanya…
